About me and the site
I’m not really a fan of these sorts of pages, mostly because I’m never sure what I should or shouldn’t say (of course that’s perhaps a larger issue that plagues most aspects of my life. Oh well). I guess I’ll start with the basics.
I’m 27 years old and a teacher by trade (I also get paid and flown around to announce at horse shows (random, isn’t it?). For the last three years I worked as an I.B. teacher teaching two of the most loathed subjects in high school: English and Theory of Knowledge. Despite the fact that the pay is pretty weak, I absolutely loved my job. That probably sounds cliche on some level but it is nonetheless true. The students were outstanding and I always felt as if they kept me mentally sharp. If you doubt the truth in this spend some time in a 12th grade classroom trying to convince students that The Great Gatsby is fundamental to their well being in life, or that Wallace Stevens’ poetry does indeed make sense and no, he was not high when he wrote it. Both of these are more difficult than you’d imagine and will keep you on your toes.
As much as I adored my job, I was tired of a long distance relationship and moving gave me the opportunity to not only be with Louis, my boyfriend, but to also explore the world a bit. Being that I grew up in Florida, went to college there, then went back and taught at the very school in the program I myself graduated from. I felt like I should take the chance to see the world a bit before I settled down in Florida forever, as doing so would have been incredibly easy. Thus I moved to Clovis, NM in June of 2010 (if you’re so inclined, you can read about that little 1500+ mile journey HERE, on my since abandoned blog). While I love being with Louis, I’m still contemplating the intelligence of this move given the inherently *charming* qualities of Clovis, (the aroma of cow farts adds a certain ambiance no doubt), but so far it has afforded me many opportunities that I would not have had in Florida. One such opportunity is the creation of this comic. I’ve always drawn but I’ve never tried to do anything particularly consistent or serious with it; now that I have some time I’ve decided to give it a go. I’m hoping that with work and dedication I can eventually be on par with some of my favorite webcomics (XKCD, anyone?)
As it stands now I spend the majority of my time working and tending to the needs and whims of Woody, my disgruntled quarter horse with a Napoleon complex, Puppy, a gawky warmblood with a penchant for maiming himself, and Hobbes (AKA The Hobbit, Hobgoblin, the Hobapocalypse) my hurricane of a dog that Louis affectionately refers to as an “Australian Fuzz-bomb.” When I’m not babysitting everyone I work on this comic, which thus far has been great fun. I hope to update every Wednesday, so please check back often.
